One Dozen Declared for Derby

Following the enforced scratching of leading fancy Zawraq (Ire) (Shamardal), one dozen hopefuls have been declared for Saturday's Blue Riband at Epsom. However, John Gosden has voiced a note of caution regarding the participation of Jack Hobbs (GB) (Montjeu {Ire}), who will also be withdrawn if the ground is deemed unsuitable. “The key thing is these [forecast] thunderstorms that are set to be around Epsom tomorrow,” the trainer told Racing Post. “They could contain as much as 5mm which would change everything, but they could well miss Epsom all together. If they miss, with all this drying weather, the ground would suit Golden Horn, but I would have to walk the track on Saturday morning before making a decision about the participation of Jack Hobbs.”
